Understanding Breast Cancer: a Backgrounder

Cancer is not a single disease, nor does it have a single cause. There are more than 200 different types of cancer, each requiring treatment specifically tailored to treat patients with that type of cancer.

To understand breast cancer, please find here a backgrounde.

Breast Cancer Stages:

Cancer in its earliest stage is localized to the area where it started and is, in many cases, highly curable. This type of cancer is indicated by a stage of “0” or zero.

A “stage” number of I, II, III or IV, is given when breast cancer continues to grow. In breast cancer, stages I - IIB indicate early stage cancer and stages IIIA through Stage IV the most advanced. The following chart describes the criteria that define each of the stages.
