The Ludwig Group decided to pursue only basic research and to withdraw from patient-oriented clinical research. The centers involved in clinical research when this decision was taken resolved to continue their work for the good of patients under the name IBCSG. IBCSG stands for "International Breast Cancer Study Group".
The IBCSG moved in a pioneering direction with its efforts to gather additional data on patients' quality of life.
