After about six years of follow-up, we found that women who paused endocrine therapy to get pregnant had similar breast cancer recurrence rates (12.3%) to those who did not (13.2%). Pregnancy rates were high (76%), with 440 babies born, including 18 sets of twins! Most participants have since resumed treatment after childbirth and breastfeeding.
These encouraging results suggest it may be safe for young women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer to temporarily pause their treatment to pursue pregnancy.
Long-term follow-up through 2029 is essential to fully understand recurrence risks over time — but we need your help to continue this important, practice-changing research. Learn more
